General Information: The customer came in with the Auxiliary Battery Malfunction message on the instrument cluster. All the customer wanted was the message to go off.

First Thoughts: This wasn’t too hard to see what was causing the problem. The hardest part was finding where the battery was located! My resources either didn’t show where it was located or it was under the steering column? (Older models)

After taking an educated guess, I pulled the panel on the right side of the trunk and there was the battery!

I wasn’t quite sure what an auxiliary battery did for this car, so I decided to look it up.

The auxiliary battery on vehicles usually operates the extra functions of the car, like the “stop-go” function. “Stop-go” reduces the waste of fuel during idling. So when you come up to a red light and stop, the car will shut off and when you press the gas, it’ll start back up again.

Diagnostics: I didn’t spend much time on this car to be completely honest. As soon as I saw the battery, I was too things.

  1. The battery was old, probably needed a new one.

  2. One of the terminals had a ton of corrosion on it.

What I did was ordered a new battery and cleaned the corrosion off of the battery cable.
